SOUTHWEST RIVER UNITED CHURCH

In 2011, the Congregations of Long River, New London and Margate amalgamated to form Southwest River Church, located in Margate, PEI. It was during the amalgamation process that the Southwest River Church removed the pews and had them replaced with comfortable padded chairs as well as a number of physical upgrades to both the exterior and interior of the church.

The property at Southwest River Church has a paved parking lot, as well as parking available in a grassed area behind the church. The Church has a wheelchair ramp. Inside there is the main sanctuary and choir area, and downstairs there is the vestry (where meetings can take place if need be) as well as the kitchen and washroom. Upstairs, there is a small store room, and two rooms, used for Sunday School and other groups.

Southwest River Church has had Canadian Girls in Training (CGIT) group and Explorers group. Southwest River Church has an active and vibrant UCW and an excellent choir. The Sunday School has had a broad mix of younger and older participants, with excellent leaders and teachers. The congregation typically participates in 2-3 major fundraisers per year which assists both our church and our partnership with Farmers Helping Farmers and our twinned school  in Kenya.

The congregation at Southwest River Church takes great pride in helping out with each worship service and sees itself as an inclusive community open and welcoming to all who wish to worship with us. The youth of the Church have taken part in lighting the Christ Candle, Call to Worship and Opening prayer. Older members use their talents as greeters, readers, janitors, or anywhere else that there might be a need.
